Devotional for: 10th May
TEXT:
Psalm 18:2. “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower”.
A fortress can be defined as a fortified place. And we can see that only God is a Mighty Fortress Just as a fortress brought peace to a city, God is our fortress and brings peace to our souls in the midst of the chaos happening around us (Psalm 46:7, Psalm 46:11). David reminds us that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). God brings us peace and strengthens us, giving us the freedom to fulfil our God-given destiny rather than being preoccupied with our personal safety. Just like the ancient cities, fortress gave them the freedom to thrive. Building a secure ancient fortress was not an overnight process. Knowing God is also a process. It happens day by day as we read the Bible, worship Him and stay in community with other believers. Jesus said we would have trouble in our lives, but to be encouraged and at peace, because He conquered every problem well will ever face (John 16:33). If we follow Him, Jesus will lead us into the fortress of an intimate relationship with God. Is there any situation that makes you feel unsafe? Have you talked to Jesus about it? Take a moment now and ask Him to help you build your “fortress of peace” in the midst of threatening circumstances. How much time do you spend getting to know God? That is one step you can take today, to take refuge in Him as your fortress.
PRAYER POINTS
Dear Father, I am so glad the Lord Jesus is my Fortress! I think of all that a fortress represents a stronghold, a fortified town, a source of refuge, a high place. Help me to build Fortress of peace in the midst of threatening situations. I decree that we are not shaken in Christlike Assembly because the Lord is our Fortress.
