James.4.7 – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.
To resist the devil means to stand against his attacks refusing to give in to his advances. When we resist the devil, he will flee from us. Apostle James exalts believers to resist the devil in order to cause him to flee or run away. Resistance can be a defensive maneuver on our part such as resisting or withstanding the temptations to sin. It can also be an action we take to use the only offensive weapon in the full armor of God Eph- 6:13-18 which is the Word of God. Resisting the devil must be accompanied by submission to God.
A disobedient or unsubmissive believer will not see victory. Ways of resisting the devil:
1). Be ruled by the Word. Make the Word of God your rule and authority and live in obedience to all it says. You can resist the devil by the word of God like Jesus did.
2). Beware of grieving the holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that gives Christians the ability to discern Satan's temptation and to see his hand in and behind life's circumstances.
3). Keep being humble. A humble heart would rather lie in the dust than rise to prominence by sinful means. It would prefer to lose everything than to sin and be left with a guilty conscience.
4). Pray constantly. Prayer is "a shelter to the soul, a sacrifice to God and a scourge to the devil" so pray and pray constantlyPRAYER POINTS
Thank God for who He is and what He has done for you and your family. Lord! give me the grace and discipline I need to study Your word. Lord! Uphold your servant Pst (Mrs.) Christianah Odunayo Omotayo Joshua Ketiku and her children with your right hand of righteousness. Let your grace be sufficient for her, let her become a terror to the kingdom of darkness. Lord! Let every member of Christlike family become a terror to the devil by the reason of the Word of God.
